Updates
from Adopters

Blair |
August,
2010 | Went to the beach in NC end of August (Blair
was 10 and 1/2 months at the time). Here is a picture of Blair
with my niece and nephew. She is the most wonderful, sweet pup.
Thanks again.

June,
2010 | Farm Manager Shawn Bennett and longtime volunteer
Jennie Sunner had the opportunity to visit Nicole in her new
home. She has loving humans, two canine siblings, a big yard,
and finally the life she has always deserved. By all accounts,
she is doing beautifully!

April
22, 2010 | Five months and all is well. Though you
might enjoy this picture, sent to me by my neighbor, Susan.
Seems Rocko has a BFF: Susan's dog Milo, a bichon frise, who
is about 1/10 the size of Rocko. They play with each other nearly
every day and Rocko tolerates Milo jumping all over him and
kissing him. It's hysterical and quite surprising, given Rock's
behavior when we first met him.

(cat) (no photo sent) |
April, 2010 | Zorro made HUGE, wonderful progress
yesterday! I was sitting on the floor next to the couch (his
favorite hiding spot at the moment) doing some reading, and
I heard a tiny mew. I looked down, and he'd stuck his head out
from underneath. He proceeded to wiggle out, flopped down next
to me, and looked at me as if to say "What's the big deal?"
And then when I went to bed, he hopped up after me, and slept
on my feet, waking up and mewing every few minutes to make sure
I was paying enough attention to him. (Prior to yesterday, he
had not voluntarily come out of hiding when I've been in the
same room, he'd never mewed, and he'd never been on my bed!)

April
11, 2010 | I wanted to tell you how happy we have been
with Zoey (formerly known as Dawn and Blossom), the Shiba Inu
mix puppy we adopted in early February. She is a great dog and
has been a great addition to our family. Everyone is thriving.
And I especially wanted to thank [HSFC] for paying for her Cherry
Eye repair. It was a huge help. She is doing great! Linda

April
10, 2010 | I just wanted to thank you for all your
help on Thursday -- and being willing to take the time with
us even when the rainstorm was bearing down on us! Also, wanted
to let you know that Carly seems to be adapting (or we are --
one or the other :-) ), pretty well. She was a bit subdued the
first day, but seems to be getting back to her feistier self!
She really seems to like to go to soccer games -- see other
dogs and kids! -- and carpool (same!). She has been eating fine,
and with the great weather it has been easy to get her outside
really frequently to use the bathroom. It must be tough seeing
dogs leave, so I thought you might enjoy an update!

March
26, 2010 | As for Mickey...he's doing great. He's happy,
spoiled, he gets constant attention, and he makes my parents
very happy. I usually stop by to see him/take him for a walk
once a week. And when my parents travel, Mickey always stays
with me. We love him. Thanks for finding the perfect dog for
my parents. They're always saying, "We couldn't have asked
for a more wonderful dog."

March
11, 2010 | I thought you might like to know how Rocko
is doing, given that our four month anniversary of adopting
him comes up this weekend. In a nutshell, he is just a delight.
I love taking him for walks because when anyone meets him, they
are instantly charmed, because he leans into them and looks
up at them hoping to get petted. (He is shameless.) He insists
on plenty of belly rubs every day and lots of play time -- he
now has a big collection of very squeaky toys. I say "insists"
but he is never a pest -- so well behaved. He barks about once
a week (if that). Even the dog aggression seems to be getting
much better. We have spoiled him so badly it's a miracle that
he is still such a good dog -- we haven't quite ruined him yet!
I can see the shelter training in many things, such as the way
he heels on walks and always waits for me to go out the door
of the house first. We're just crazy about him and feel very
lucky that we were able to adopt him. Just thought you would
like to know.

February
24, 2010 | I just wanted to send you guys a little
message to let you know that Montana, aka Monty, is doing great!
He's having fun playing with my little boy and exploring EVERYTHING!
He was a little afraid of the television at first, but he is
fine with it now. He actually sits in front and watches cartoons!!!
Spongebob, of course. There are a lot of things that he's getting
used to being around, that he's never had to deal with before.
The noises the washing machine and dishwasher make are kind
of scary, but I'm sure as time goes on, he will be just fine.
We're right there for him with hugs and reassurances that it's
okay. We are so very happy that Monty has become a part of our
family. Thank you all at the Humane Society for all you've done
for him and for all you've done for the other animals. Patricia
& Gabriel W.

January
20, 2010 | See
Rickles (right) with his new BIG best friend/brother, Apollo.
Rickles was a good-sized dog but he looks almost pint-sized
in comparison! They spend their days romping acreage together.
All is well with Rickles!
