*** IMPORTANT NOTICE TO FARM VOLUNTEERS***

The kennel living areas are often marked with signs i.e., "caution" if we have reason for concern, or "no treats" or "QUARANTINE - Do Not Enter". We expect our volunteers to adhere to the signs. This is not an optional activity. Volunteers found ignoring signs or disregarding staff instruction will be asked to leave the property. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dog Socializing and Care: Animal care volunteers keep the animals and the HSFC farm appealing to the public by providing a clean environment and by exercising, socializing, bathing and grooming animals. Volunteers in this area increase the animals' chances for adoption by keeping them cared for and healthy. Volunteer activities are coordinated through the HSFC Farm Manager. (Minimum age: 15 - must meet additional youth volunteer requirements.) All new volunteers must attend a farm orientation prior to accruing service hours.

Kennel Upkeep: Various cleaning and organizing requirements for new dog kennel facility.

Dog Adoption Visits (Pre- or Post-Adoption): Volunteers may conduct home checks prior to adoption or follow-up with the families shortly afterward to ensure a smooth transition to the new home.

Dog Foster Opportunities: Volunteers foster animals that may not be ready to be placed for adoption and are considered highly adoptable. These animals may be too young to be adopted, or might be ill and in need of extended care. Once the animal is ready to be adopted, they are either returned to the HSFC facility or are brought to our adoption events.

Horse Care and Barn Upkeep: Volunteers with horse experience, once trained to HSFC policies and standard procedures regarding horse care, may be permitted to assist with grooming, feeding and general care of the horses. Assistance is also needed to keep the barn clean on a daily basis.

Horse Adoption Visits (Pre- or Post-Adoption): Volunteers may conduct home checks prior to adoption or follow-up with the families shortly afterward to ensure a smooth transition to the new home. (These are typically conducted before adoption to ensure the horse will be on-site and not boarded at a third party facility.)

Farm Grounds: Assistance is needed with routine grounds maintenance, farm fence repairs, mowing, weed pulling, etc.

Note: Group Orientations are held at our farm on a monthly basis. Please click here to monitor the calendar for updates.
