Cat
Socializers: Animal care volunteers keep the animals and the
HSFC building appealing to the public by providing a clean environment
and by exercising, socializing, bathing and grooming animals. Volunteers
in this area increase the animals' chances for adoption by keeping them
cared for and healthy. These activities are coordinated through the
HSFC Office Manager (Fairfax). (Minimum age: 15 - must meet additional
youth volunteer requirements.)
Cat Adoption Events (for ACAT): Volunteers
assist the ACAT team by bringing the adoptable foster cats to adoption
events in the community. The HSFC trailer travels to various northern
Virginia pet stores with adoptable cats. Volunteers must be comfortable
interacting with the public and have reliable transportation.
Driver/Transporter
for Cat Adoption Events: Our ACAT program (outreach cat foster
program) needs support transporting cages, tables and supplies to the
adoption events at Petsmart on the weekends. We have a tag-a-long trailer,
where the supplies are kept, parked at our farm in Centreville. On the
2nd and 4th Saturdays we go to the Petsmart in Fair Lakes and on the
1st and 3rd Saturday we go to the Reston Petsmart. The 4th Saturday,
if we have one, is at the Reston Petsmart again. If you can help on
any Saturday or every Saturday, we would be eternally grateful. If you
do not want to pull our trailer and prefer to haul supplies in your
own vehicle, you would need an SUV or larger car to be able to hold
everything.
Cat
Foster Opportunities: Volunteers foster animals that may not
be ready to be placed for adoption and are considered highly adoptable.
These animals may be too young to be adopted, or might be ill and in
need of extended care. Once the animal is ready to be adopted, they
are either returned to the HSFC facility or are brought to our adoption
events.
Cat
Adoption Visits (Pre- or Post-Adoption): Volunteers may conduct
home checks prior to adoption or follow-up with the families shortly
afterward to ensure a smooth transition to the new home.
Animal
Transporter: Drivers are needed to help take animals to and
from vet appointments and adoption events. Reliable transportation is
required as well as proof of insurance. Volunteers may also assist with
transporting incoming animals from other shelters/rescue organizations.
Small
Mammal Socializers: Animal care volunteers keep the small mammals
and the HSFC building appealing to the public by providing a clean environment
and by exercising, socializing, bathing and grooming animals. Volunteers

cared for and healthy. These activities are coordinated through the
